Traveling to Japan for Christmas?
My mother and I have planned a trip to visit my good friend who lives in Saitama, Japan. I’m very excited and have always wanted to take a trip to Japan, but I have never once traveled out of America. I would just like to get an idea of what we are getting into.
These are just a few of this things I have heard and have questions about:
Both of us, my mother and I, are British with blonde hair, short, skinny and have large breasts for our size, so would we get odd stares because of the way we look and by our accents?
Is sneezing and blowing your nose in public wrong in Japan?
We wear pretty much normal American clothes… t-shirt, bluejeans, the usual stuff. Is our fashion considered ugly in Japan?
Do we really not tip our waiters/waitresses? Is it because of the expensive prices in Japan?
If you have to sneeze then sneeze, it isn’t illegal. Though blowing your nose would be inpolite and gross in public in any place (don’t the British think blowing your nose in front of someone isn’t gross? or rather British in America or as an American myself I think blowing your nose in public in front of people is gross anywhere anyplace)
I wouldn’t consider wearing a t-shirt in the dead middle of winter unless you were crazy, otherwise the fashion is fine.
Tipping is not done in Japan, not because of the prices but because of the culture, which is typically of many east asian countries like Korea. You don’t need to pay someone extra money for doing their jobs.
